An oil platform worker is suing his employer, alleging negligence for injuries he suffered while working.

Travis Sims filed a lawsuit July 10 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against Energy XXI GOM, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 10, 2014, Sims was employed on the Energy XXI GOM-owned WD 74B oil platform when he tripped over a hose that crossed a walkway, causing him to suffer injuries to his left knee, left ankle and other parts of his body.

The suit says the defendant breached its duty of reasonable care and failed to provide a safe workplace, adhere to policies and provide minimum safety requirements. Not only did the plaintiff suffer injury as a result, but also pain and suffering, disability and medical expenses, the lawsuit states.

Sims seeks unspecified damages, interest, plus court and expert costs. He is represented by attorneys Timothy J. Young, Tammy D. Harris, Megan C. Misko and Daniel J. Poolson Jr. of The Young Firm in New Orleans.

U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana case number 2:15-cv-02527-ILRL-SS.
