A Union Parish man is suing two Mississippi companies following a work site accident that allegedly left him severely injured.

Arthur B. Strickland filed a complaint Aug. 5 in the Eastern District of Louisiana against T.K. Stanley Inc. and Spooner Petroleum Co., alleging negligence.

The complaint states that on Oct. 31, 2013, Strickland was being transported in a manlift on a Spooner worksite when a Stanley employee attempted to lift a section of a drilling rig derrick with a crane that had insufficient capacity to perform the task.

The crane collapsed, and the rig derrick being lifted struck the manlift transporting Strickland, causing him to sustain injuries, including an oblique fracture in his left leg and a displaced longitudinal fracture in his right leg, according to the complaint.

The complaint states that the defendants' negligence was responsible for the accident that resulted in Strickland's mental anguish, lost earnings, disfigurement, physical impairment, loss of enjoyment of life, physical pain and suffering, and incurred medical expenses.

Strickland seeks damages of more than $75,000, plus court costs.

He is represented by Walter Naquin Jr. of Thibodaux and, of counsel, by Jerry C. von Sternberg of Spagnoletti & Co. in Houston.
