A Houston offshore energy company is suing another energy business, alleging unpaid share of costs and expenses associated with an abandoned oil well.

Fieldwood Energy Offshore, based in Houston filed a lawsuit Oct. 15 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against Eugene Island 309, alleging the defendant is required to pay a share of expenses associated with abandoning an oil well.

According to the complaint, Eugene acquired a 31.25 percent share of an oil well in the Eugene Island Area on Oct. 16, 1999, from a predecessor of Fieldwood. Fieldwood has since abandoned the well and undergone legally required abandonment and removal operations, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges Eugene is responsible for a share of the costs associated with these procedures but has not paid them despite proper notice and demand.

Fieldwood Energy Offshore seeks  $398,717.41, plus interest and an additional 1 percent, litigation costs and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. They are represented by attorneys James D. Bercaw, R. Daniel Serio Jr. and Laura E. Avery of King, Krebs & Jurgens in New Orleans.
