Barge passenger accuses Baywater Drilling of negligence

Barge safety

NEW ORLEANS – A passenger aboard the Barge Atchafalaya blames its owner’s carelessness for his injuries.

Jordan Wade filed a lawsuit Nov. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Baywater Drilling.

According to the complaint, Wade’s thumb, neck and other areas were crushed by a piece of drill pipe while he was on board July 17. The plaintiff claims the injuries were a result of numerous Occupational Safety and Health Administration SHA, Coast Guard and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement safety violations, including improper staff training and supervision, improper equipment, inadequate safety warnings to passengers and others.

The suit says Wade’s injuries resulted in pain and suffering, lost wages, reduced earning capacity and medical expenses.

Wade seeks a jury trial and punitive and compensatory damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest and court costs. He is represented by attorney Noah M. Wexler and Kelly M. Woods of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston, Texas.
