Shipyard worker accuses employer of not paying overtime

Overtime

LOUISIANA — A shipyard worker is suing a Morgan City business, alleging refusal to pay overtime.

Javier Vazquez filed a class-action lawsuit march 28 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against Contractor Labor Services LLC. of Morgan City, Conrad Industries Inc., and Eduardo Hernandez, alleging unpaid wages and violation of workers compensation acts.

According to the complaint, in June 2014, Vazquez worked for more than 40 hours per week but did not receive any overtime pay equivalent to the standard rate according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. The plaintiff alleges the defendants show disregard for the law by not paying employees overtime wages.

Vazquez seeks trial by jury, all unpaid overtime wages, liquidated damages, enjoining the defendant from violating FLSA provisions, all court fees, interest on all monetary amounts, and any further relief as the court grants. He is represented by attorneys Roberto Luis Costales of Costales Law Office in New Orleans, and William H. Beaumont, also in New Orleans.
