Woman claims chair caused injuries

GRETNA – A woman is seeking damages, claiming that she was caused to fall from a chair that rolled out from under her.

Judy D. DeSoto filed a suit against Germer-Haley LLC, Eye Surgery Center of Louisiana, Dr. Bruce Germer and State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 7.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a patient at the defendants' facility on June 18, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that while she was at the facility, she was given eye drops that impaired her vision. Following this, the plaintiff was allegedly told to sit in a chair that was unstable and had wheels on it. Upon attempting to do so, the suit states plaintiff was caused to fall from the chair as it rolled away from her.

The defendants are accused of negligence through the failure to take reasonable care, failure to exercise due diligence and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Philip Dominique and David A. Oriol of Oriol & Edler in Covington. The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
