Driver alleges injuries in accident with Jefferson Parish Sheriff employee

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman claims that she was caused damages due to a negligent driver.

Lola Maloof filed a suit against Newell Normand, Jefferson Parish Sheriff, in his official capacity, and Michael Alwert in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 3.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was operating her vehicle on June 9, 2015, southbound on Barataria Boulevard when the incident occurred. The suit states that while the plaintiff was driving, Alwert was also operating a 2014 Ford Explorer eastbound on an intersecting road. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused damages when the defendant's car struck her vehicle.

Alwert is accused of negligence through failure to keep a proper lookout, for disregarding a stop sign, and failure to operate the vehicle in a safe manner or maintain reasonable care. The suit states he is a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office employee.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Przemek Lubecki of Morris Bart LLC in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
