Mail carrier files suit alleging mailbox caused her injuries

GRETNA – An Orleans Parish mail carrier is seeking damages over allegations that a faulty mailbox fell on her, causing her injuries.

Javonte R. Richards filed a suit against 120 Houma Blvd. Apartments, John Doe and XYZ Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 13.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was operating in that position on June 13, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that while she was delivering mail at the address of the defendant, the mailbox fell over, causing injuries to her left knee and foot.

The defendants are accused of negligence through their failure to maintain the premises in a safe manner.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Michael J. Hall and Jonique Martin Hall of the Law Office of Michael J. Hall LLC in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
