GRETNA – A school board is being sued following an incident in which a minor was allegedly injured during football practice drills.

Lamont S. Upton, on behalf of a minor, filed a suit against the Jefferson Parish School Board and XYZ insurance company in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 17.

According to the claim, the plaintiff's minor child was a student at Bonnabel High School in September 2015 and was part of the junior varsity football team at the time as freshman. The suit states that while partaking in practices at the high school, the minor was forced to take part in a full-contact tackling drill, which caused personal injuries.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Pete Lewis and Barrett R. Stephens of Lewis & Caplan in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
