NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. government is suing a New Orleans woman, alleging default of payment.

The United States of America filed a lawsuit June 29 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Dorothy Walters alleging violation of the terms or conditions of the U.S. Small Business Administration's loan authorization and agreement.

According to the complaint, on June 30, 2006, the U.S. approved a loan to Walters in the amount of $43,000 to rehabilitate/replace her disaster-damaged personal property caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The plaintiff alleges Walters has failed to make her payments in the amount of $11,768.71.

The U.S. seeks a trial by jury, judgment for $15,772.50 plus post-judgment interest and legal costs. It is represented by attorneys Kenneth Allen Polite Jr. and Peter M. Mansfield of United States Attorney's Office in New Orleans.
