NEW ORLEANS – A widow has filed suit against a university hospital and affiliated facilities for allegedly causing her husband's death.

Diana Deruise-Pierce filed a suit against University Healthcare System LLC, doing business as Tulane University Hospital & Clinic, University Medical Center Management Corp., doing business as University Medical Center New Orleans, Davis Wendell Ogitani M.D, registered nurse Brian Conkerton and registered nurse Danielle Williams-Johnson in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 16.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is the surviving spouse of Roy Pierce who died unattended by medical professionals while awaiting a medical procedure. The suit states that the victim was transported from the hospital with dangerously low blood pressure to a facility where he was to undergo a procedure, during which time be became unable to respond to or give consent.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice through failing to provide the proper level of care, failing to keep proper supervision of the patient and allowing his condition to decline without offering aid.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by M. Suzanne Montero, Warren A. Forstall Jr. and John D. Sileo.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court case number 16-8218.
