Home Decor of 9671 shopper alleges nail pierced foot while in store

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that a rusty nail pierced her foot in a home improvement store.

Ranada Blackman filed a suit against Home Decor of 9671 Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was at the defendant's location of 10920 East I-10 Service Road in New Orleans on April 2, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused injury by a rusty nail that had pierced through her shoes and punctured her foot. The incident resulted in the need for medical attention immediately, the suit states.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to provide a clean and safe environment for customers, failing to warn customers of danger and overall negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by James L. Oliver III of the Law Offices of James Oliver III in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
