Texas resident accuses derrick barge operators of unsafe work environment

Oilrig 01

NEW ORLEANS — An offshore employee is suing Tetra Technologies Inc., Tetra Applied Technologies LP. and Tetra Applied Technologies LLC, derrick barge operators, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Santos Ortega Webb filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the defendants alleging that they violated the General Maritime Law.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Sept. 24, 2015, he was in the process of being transferred from defendants' D/B Tetra Arapaho to a fixed platform in a basket, when rough seas caused the crane to suddenly lift and drop the basket. As a result of the sudden movements, he lost his footing and his right foot bent to the left and popped. The incident caused him to suffer severe injury that resulted in physical and mental pain, emotional distress, medical expenses and lost wages. The plaintiff holds Tetra Technologies Inc., Tetra Applied Technologies LP. and Tetra Applied Technologies LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide a safe place to work, failed to safely perform a basket transfer and negligently attempted to perform a basket transfer in rough seas.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment agains defendants, jointly, severally and in solido, for all damages, plus interest, all costs of these proceedings and for all equitable relief which the court deems necessary. He is represented by Charles C. Bourque, Jr. and Joseph G. Jevic, III of St. Martin & Bourque in Houma.
