NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans consumer has filed a class-action lawsuit against a New York debt collection over allegations of invasion of privacy.

Caitlin Boyce filed a complaint on behalf of individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated on Nov. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Northstar Location Services LLC alleging that the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in October 2016, her father received a call from defendant attempting to collect an alleged debt owned by the plaintiff. As a result, she alleges she suffered injuries of the invasion of her legally protected interest to maintain confidentiality. The plaintiff holds Northstar Location Services LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly disclosed information about her debt to unauthorized third parties by leaving an automated voice mail message.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for actual and statutory damages, attorneys’ fees, all costs and expenses, and for all other relief the court may deem appropriate. She is represented by Keren E. Gesund of Gesund and Pailet LLC in Metairie.
