NEW ORLEANS – A Bastrop man alleges he was injured while working as a roustabout on a drillship.
Austin Rookard filed a complaint on Nov. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Transocean Deepwater Inc., Transocean LTD and Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc. alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 7, 2016, he was working as a member of the crew aboard defendants' ultra-deepwater drillship, the D/S Discoverer Inspiration, where he was injured. The plaintiff holds Transocean Deepwater Inc., Transocean LTD and Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to put safety as its first priority during rig operations, failed to implement a proper plan in order to safely run casing aboard the vessel and failed to provide proper safety equipment.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for all damages that are reasonable, plus interest, all costs of these proceedings and for all general and equitable relief. He is represented by J. Christopher Zainey Jr. and Brian P. Marcelle of Huber, Slack, Thomas & Marcelle LLP in New Orleans and Richard P. Voorhies III of The Voorhies Law Firm in New Orleans.
