NEW ORLEANS – An African-American female claims her former Norco employer subjected her to discrimination and harassment.

Aariel Kirklin filed a complaint on Nov. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Valero Partners Louisiana LLC alleging that the former employer violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that during her tenure with defendant beginning in 2005, she was harassed and discriminated against because of her race, pregnancy and a disability. She alleges she was terminated on Sept. 20, 2013, causing her to suffer loss of income and benefits, mental anguish, loss of employability and humiliation. The plaintiff holds Valero Partners Louisiana LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected her to disparate treatment, failed to provide reasonable accommodations and failed to take prompt, effective remedial action to stop discrimination and harassment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for damages as are reasonable in the premises, attorney’s fees, interest, costs and for any other relief that justice may demand. She is represented by Jeffrey Michael Heggelund of Heggelund Law LLC in Gonzales.
