NEW ORLEANS – A couple and their insurer are seeking damages after a dryer allegedly started a fire in a New Orleans property.

Scottsdale Insurance Co., as subrogee of/and David and Diana Quintana, filed a suit against Eletrolux Inc., Electrolux Corp., Electrolux USA Inc., Electrolux Warranty Corp., Shaun Abreu and Salvadore Torrez in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 9.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs were the owners of a property located at 1216 Adams St. #18 in New Orleans. The suit states that Abreu and Torrez were tenants of the property and were operating the dryer on Feb. 25 when the dryer caught on fire. The suit states the dryer was manufactured by Electrolux.

Eletrolux Inc., Electrolux Corp., Electrolux USA Inc., Electrolux Warranty Corp. are accused of failing to design a dryer that was safe to operate, failing to design a cabinet that was resistant to fire. Abreu and Torrez are accused of failing to clean the dryer's lint trap and failing to monitor it while it was in use.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by Cadence R. LeBlanc of the Law Office of Maria B. De Gracia of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
