LAKE CHARLES — A Lake Charles pet owner is suing Beauregard Parish law enforcement officials, alleging violation of civil rights in taking away her dogs.

Jessica Robinson filed a lawsuit Nov. 22 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana Lake Charles Division against Ricky Moses and Edward Propst, sheriff and deputy of Beauregard Parish, alleging violation of the Fourth and 14th Amendment U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 3, Propst captured Robinson's two of dogs and a puppy, shot two of the dogs and seized five other puppies. As a result, the suit says, she suffered loss of her beloved dogs and their companionship, emotional pain, veterinary expenses and loss of sense of security and trust in law enforcement.

The plaintiff alleges Propst failed to employ non-lethal methods and negligently used deadly force and Moses failed to adequately train and supervise employee-responders to properly handle dog/animal encounters.

Robinson seeks trial by jury, reasonable damages, plus interest, litigation costs and all other equitable relief. She is represented by attorneys Alyson Vamvoras Antoon and Michael N. Antoon of Antoon Law Firm LLC in Lake Charles.
