NEW ORLEANS – A French Quarter bar customer is suing the establishment, alleging he was wrongfully accused of sexual assault.

Sharif Azami filed a lawsuit Dec. 20 against 516 Enterprises LLC, doing business as The Swamp on Bourbon, Jane Doe and John Doe in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, on Dec. 26, 2015, Azami was approached by a Swamp on Bourbon security guard and was accused of striking a woman. The suit says the woman who alleged to have been struck lied when she stated Azami had assaulted her.

The suit states Azami was handcuffed and arrested with charges of sexual assault against the woman. The suit says this caused mental anguish and personal damage to his reputation after having to explain his reason for being wrongly arrested.

Azami seeks appropriate monetary damages, attorney fees, interest, court costs and all equitable relief. He is represented by attorney Marc L. Frischhertz of Frischhertz, Poulliard, Frischhertz and Impastato in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 16-12377.
