NEW ORLEANS – A St. John the Baptist Parish couple alleges the husband was injured when he was struck by a semi-tractor on Interstate 10.
Salomon St. Sauveur and Lawanda St. Sauveur filed a complaint on Dec. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Roderick Smart, Smart Moves Trucking and Ricky Howard alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Feb. 16, 2016, Salomon St. Sauveur was lawfully operating a motor vehicle traveling east on Interstate 10 when Howard, who was driving a Freightliner, side-swiped plaintiff's vehicle and went on to strike another four vehicles. Upon impact, plaintiff Salomon was thrown about in the car, causing him to sustain multiple injuries that required medical treatment. Lawanda St. Sauveur alleges she suffered loss of consortium, love and society of her husband.
The plaintiffs hold Roderick Smart, Smart Moves Trucking and Howard responsible because Howard allegedly failed to keep proper lookout and failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle. Howard was employed by Smart and Smart Moves Trucking, the suit states.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants, jointly and severally, for sums that are reasonable in the premises, plus interest and all costs of the proceedings. They are represented by Michael Hingle and Colby F. Wenk of Michael Hingle & Associates LLC in Slidell.
