Tenant blames homeowners association for leaky apartment

NEW ORLEANS – A tenant is suing a homeowners group, alleging its negligence caused leaking into her apartment.

Jan Bruckmeier filed a lawsuit Jan. 11 against Patty Young and Parkview St. John Homeowner's Association Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Bruckmeier found water leaking into her condo in February 2016 after a rainstorm. The suit states the leaking continued through Jan. 2, 2017. The plaintiff is seeking reparation for damages suffered.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to maintain the property and failing to ensure that the property was sealed from weather-related damages.

Bruckmeier seeks all reasonable reparations and damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Catherine Materson of Thibodaux.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
