Big Easy Tattoo, others say building owner didn't keep property safe from fire

NEW ORLEANS – Several business owners are seeking damages after a fire.

Big Easy Tattoo & Co. Inc., Fleur Delicious Couture LLC, Louisiana Gold Connection LLC and Audio Visual Service Inc. filed a lawsuit Jan. 25 against Quarter Holdings LLC, Golden Perfume Inc and Sweet Sticky Stuff LLC in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the defendant is the owner of real estate property that the plaintiffs were leasing. The suit states that on Jan. 26, 2016, the property leased by the plaintiffs and owned by the defendant caught fire and that the damages from the fire caused in the plaintiffs to be shut down operations. In addition to being closed, the plaintiffs' stores suffered losses of inventory and equipment.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to ensure that the other stores were safe from the fire, failing to properly inspect the premises for safety and failing to take the necessary actions to prevent such an incident from occurring.

The plaintiffs seek all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. They are represented by attorney Byron Miller Forrest of The Forrest Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
