Family Dollar Store sued over worker injury

NEW ORLEANS – A Mississippi woman is suing over injuries she sustained when a shelf containing water bottles fell on her.

Angela Jackson filed a lawsuit Jan. 13 against Family Dollar Stores Inc. and Family Dollar Store of Louisiana Inc. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was working as a floor cleaner at the Family Dollar Store at 3612 S. Carrolton Ave. in New Orleans on Oct. 22, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was injured when a shelf of bottled water containers fell on her.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to ensure that the shelf was properly secured, failing to ensure that the store was safe for customers and overall negligence in the maintenance of the premises.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney William Mustian III of Stanga & Mustian in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel Julien.
