Carver Theater facing lawsuit over slip-and-fall injury

NEW ORLEANS – A theater patron claims she slipped and fell on an unclean floor while attempting to leave the theater.

Carolyn Schexnayder filed a lawsuit Jan. 18 against Carver Theaters LLC, doing business as the Historic Carver Theater. and Nationwide Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, a resident of Orleans Parish, was a guest at the Historic Carver Theater, located at 2101 Orleans Ave. in New Orleans, Jan. 15, 2016, when the incident took place. The suit states that the plaintiff was walking out of the theater when she slipped and fell on a floor that had not been cleaned.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to provide a safe environment for guests, failing to warn of the danger and overall negligence in the maintenance of the building.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Allan Berger and Andrew Geiger of Allan Berger & Associates PLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.
