Motorist blame school bus driver for crash

Car accident 31

NEW ORLEANS – A motorist is suing a school bus company, alleging its driver caused a crash that injured the plaintiff.

Tryquiten Smith of St. John the Baptist Parish filed a lawsuit Feb. 15 against Latrisha Rogers, ABC Insurance, Apple Bus Company and Protective Insurance Company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 30, 2016, Smith was parked in the 2600 block near North Preur Street, Orleans Parish, when Rogers, who was driving a school bus, tried to drive between the plaintiff's car and another car. Without having enough clearance, the suit says, the bus struck the plaintiff's side of the car and caused injuries to Smith and damages to her car.

Rogers is accused of negligently failing to operate the school bus with enough care, failing to ensure that it had enough space to make the maneuver and overall negligence.

Smith seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. She is represented by attorney Tomy J. Acosta of Laplace.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.

Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 2017-1501.
