Woman suing sports store over trip and fall

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman claims that she sustained injuries after tripping and falling while shopping at a sports store.

Joni Alvarez filed a suit March 8 against Academy Ltd., doing business as Academy Sports + Outdoors, in the 24th Judicial District Court. The complaint alleges negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff, a resident of Jefferson Parish, was shopping at the defendant's property located at 800 S. Clearview Parkway in Harahan on March 10, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to trip and fall on an uneven surface, resulting in injuries to her knee, shoulder and back.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to warn of the danger or remedy it.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jeannie Morris of the Law Offices of Jeannie Morris LLC in Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 769763.
