Mail carrier alleges dog attack

NEW ORLEANS – A mail carrier is suing a New Orleans family, alleging he was attacked by their dog while delivering mail. 

Nathan J. Lewis III filed a lawsuit April 28 against Perret J. Delapouyade Jr., Perret J. Delaypouyade Sr, and ABC Insurance Company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was working in his capacity as a letter carrier for the USPS on May 7, 2016. The suit says Lewis was walking at 1417 Moss St., New Orleans when he was attacked by the defendants' dog, which was not restrained.

The defendants are accused of negligence in managing the dog, failing to warn of the potential for danger and overall negligence.

Lewis seeks reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. He is represented by attorney Kervin W. Doyle of Kervin W. Doyle and Associates in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
