MONROE – A black registered nurse alleges that she was discriminated against by her former employer because of her race.
LaBrittany K. Hassen filed a complaint on June 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division against Ruston Louisiana Hospital Co. LLC, doing business as Northern Louisiana Medical Center, alleging that she was terminated because of her race.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was hired by the defendant in February 2012. She alleges she was terminated in June 2012 when she was removed from the shift schedule. She alleges that less-qualified, white individuals were given preference by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Ruston Louisiana Hospital Co. LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly denied her equal employment opportunities and terminated her employment because of her race.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, costs in this action, attorney fees and all general and equitable relief as the court deems necessary or proper. She is represented by Diane Hill of Diane Hill Attorney at Law in Monroe.
