NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman claims that she and her child were put at risk by mold in their apartment.

Shannon Glanton, individually and on behalf of her minor child, filed a lawsuit June 22 against Opportunity Homes Limited Partnership in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff and her child were tenants of a home on Hickory Street in New Orleans. The suit states that the plaintiff was not aware that there was dangerous mold in the unit and that she suffered from symptoms of exposure to mold.

The defendant is accused of negligence by failing to maintain the property, failing to warn of the danger the mold posed and overall negligence of management.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney DaShawn Hayes of The Hayes Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Nakisha Ervin-Knott.
