Storm victim sues for payment from insurance company

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims that he sought payment for damages to his home but was ignored by his insurance company.

Ruben Williams filed a lawsuit Dec. 7 against Safepoint Insurance Co. in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place at 4407 Eastview Drive. The suit states that the plaintiff's home was damaged in a tornado on Feb. 7, 2017 and that the plaintiff made multiple requests for payment of damages, but the defendant has failed to pay the plaintiff.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Sarah M. Kals of Scott, Vicknair, Hair & Checki LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Rachael Johnson.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case No. is 2017-11717.
