Lighthouse Property Insurance accused of failing to pay for tornado damage

NEW ORLEANS – A  woman claims that her insurance failed to repay her for damages suffered in a tornado.

Theresa Mitchell filed a lawsuit on Jan. 23 against Lighthouse Property Insurance Corporation in Orleans Parish Civil District Court alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Feb. 7, 2017 when the plaintiff's property at 4700 Marque Drive was damaged by a tornado. The suit states that the plaintiff filed a claim with the defendant but the defendant has, to this point, failed to reimburse the plaintiff.

The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney M. Al Shahlael in Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Rachael Johnson.
