GRETNA – A man claims that he was struck by an umbrella while on vacation.

Phillip Fleming filed a suit Feb. 9 against Marriott International Inc., dba, San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino and AIG Assurance Co., and/or AIG Property Casualty Company and/or AIG Specialty Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on March 2, 2017 at the Marriott International Inc. in Puerto Rico, when the plaintiff was struck by an umbrella at the beach. The plaintiff claims that it was negligent of the defendant to fail to secure the umbrellas on the beach.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by J. Bart Kelly III of Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen Enright Jr.
