City of Gretna accused of negligence after man allegedly was injured on city property

GRETNA — A man claims that John Derell Tolliver was injured while on city property.

John Tolliver II, executor of the estate of John Derell Tolliver, filed a suit on May 4 in the 24th Judicial District Court against the City of Gretna, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that allegedly took place on May 9, 2017 when John Derell Tolliver allegedly was on the defendant's property. The suit claims that John Derell Tolliver stepped in a hole, causing him to sustain injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney's fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Willard P. Schieffler in Thibodaux.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court case number 783466.
