Homeowners must repay state grants, lawsuit says

GRETNA – Two homeowners face a lawsuit over not following rules governing grants given after a hurricane.

Louisiana's Division of Administration, Office of Community Development--Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint on Sept. 6 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Efrem and Shenna Scott.

According to the complaint, the homeowners did not elevate their property after receiving grants from the state for storm damage. The plaintiff now wants reimbursement of more than $75,000.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
