Louisiana Disaster Recovery Unit seeks more than $40,000 from property owner

GRETNA –The state Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint on Sept. 14, in the 24th Judicial District Court, against Michael Carnell Burris, seeking $42,177.10.

The defendant allegedly was not in compliance with the terms of grant agreements with the state that assisted property owners affected by hurricane damage. The state office has requested that Burris return the funding for alleged failure to meet the terms.

The defendant is accused of sums due.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John C. Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
