State claims disaster recovery recipient owes over $79,000

GRETNA –The state of Louisiana Division of Administration Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit filed a complaint on Nov. 2 in the 24th Judicial District Court against Edwin Bertrand.

The suit states that the defendant has failed to pay off the balance of $79,600 plus interest. 

The plaintiff claims to have given the defendant the money as part of a grant agreement, which was to be supplied to the defendant with proof of compliance; however, the defendant has failed to pay off the balance owed to the plaintiff and never provided proof of compliance.

The defendant is accused of sums due on a grant from the government.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John Walsh of Shows, Cali & Walsh LLP in Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Danyelle Taylor.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case No. is 789290.
