Woman sues after allegedly having allergic reaction to treatment before surgery

GRETNA – Gladys S. Gautreaux filed a complaint on Nov. 6 in the 24th Judicial District Court against West Jefferson Medical Center and Emery Minnard, M.D., after allegedly suffering an allergic reaction to a doctor-ordered treatment prior to surgery.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident on Oct. 7, 2014. The plaintiff had her gallbladder removed by the defendant and the day prior to the surgery the plaintiff was given a disinfectant substance to use on her abdomen. 

The plaintiff suffered an allergic reaction that allegedly caused a rash and first degree burn to her abdomen. The plaintiff claims that the defendant did not take appropriate action to address and treat the problem.

The defendant is accused of negligence and medical malpractice.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by William R. Penton III in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
