Driver alleges he was rear-ended by a state transportation department official

GRETNA – A man is seeking damages following a car accident with a Louisiana state official vehicle.

Courtney Parker filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in the 24th Judicial District Court against the State of Louisiana through the Department of Transportation and Development and Robert Alford.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on June 21, 2017. The plaintiff was driving his vehicle on U.S. Highway 90 in Jefferson Parish. The plaintiff claims he began to slow down, seeing that traffic was coming to a stop, but the defendant, who was driving on the same road, failed to yield and struck the plaintiff's vehicle in the rear. The plaintiff says he was caused severe injuries due to the negligence of the defendant.

The defendant is accused of negligence and reckless driving.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Ellen Baggett in Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael Mentz.
