Woman seeks damages from City of Kenner after chair collapses on her at convention center

GRETNA – A woman is suing the City of Kenner, alleging that she was caused to fall when a metal chair she was sitting on at a municipal event broke under her.

Jocelyn F. Toups wife of/and Shelton P. Toups filed a complaint on March 28 in the 24th Judicial District Court against the City of Kenner, SMG Management and ABC Insurance Co.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on March 29, 2018, at the Pontchartrain Convention and Civic Center. The plaintiff was sitting in a folding metal chair when the chair allegedly collapsed and the plaintiff fell to the ground.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by G. Patrick Hand Jr of The Hand Law Firm in Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.
