NEW ORLEANS -- A woman is suing Fitbit after claiming to have suffered burns from her Fitbit Versa watch.

Renata Scorsone filed a complaint on May 19 in the 25th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Plaquemines against Fitbit, Inc. and its insurance company ABC Insurance Company for product liability. The case has since been removed to New Orleans federal court.

According to the complaint, on June 26, 2020, Scorsone was wearing her Fitbit Versa on her left wrist when the Fitbit began to buzz. Scorsone allegedly began feeling a poking sensation on her skin and began smelling her own hair and skin burning.

She then removed the device from her wrist and allegedly found that the Fitbit had indeed burned her skin severely. Scorsone alleges that the Fitbit Versa was unreasonably dangerous.

Scorsone seeks monetary compensation, legal interest, cost of proceedings and cost of attorney's fees. Scorsone is represented by Tomy J. Acosta.
