A Kmart shopper is suing for more than $900,000 after she slipped in water and fell.

Louisiana resident Celestine Burrell filed suit against Kmart Corp. on April 19 in federal court in New Orleans.

Burell was shopping at the Kmart store located in Mandeville on Sept. 10, 2010 when she slipped in water and fell. Burell claims her accident was caused by a water leak or water spill between the checkout counters, in plain view of at least two cashiers.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $900,000 in damages for medical expenses, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, disfigurement, disability and scarring, court costs and interest.

Burrell is represented by Scott E. Silbert of Silbert & Garon in New Orleans and Michael Hingle of Michael Hingle & Associates Inc. in New Orleans. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey is assigned to the case.
