NEW ORLEANS – A local public housing authority claims it overpaid rent for numerous residents while they lived in their housing units.
The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) filed suit against numerous former and current residents in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court in late July. HANO claims it overpaid their tenants' rents in many cases and did not find out about the overpayments until much later. In some cases the overpayment amounted to thousands of dollars.
The defendants in the cases are accused of not returning the funds although requested by HANO to do so.
Damages are sought from the defendants in the cases for the amount allegedly owed to HANO for the overpayments.
HANO is represented in the cases by Errol B. Conley of New Orleans-based Scheuermann & Jones.
