GRETNA – A man who was working on a deck for a local business owner is suing after he sliced his arm open with a power grinder.
Dennis Umanzor filed suit against Brain Carter, BRC & Associates and its insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 5.
Umanzor claims he was working on a deck floor at BRC & Associates when a grinder he was using jumped and sliced into his arm. The plaintiff alleges that he suffered severe personal injuries in the incident that required medical attention. Umanzor asserts that Carter was required to purchase insurance to cover against injuries performed by workers on the property.
The defendant is accused of failing to exercise necessary caution and failing to act as a prudent and reasonable employer.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, mental anguish, emotional trauma, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of pursuit of happiness and lost wages.
Umanzor is represented by Kelly S. Love of the New Orleans-based Law Offices of Pius A. Obioha & Associates LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
