Health club member sues after allegedly slipping in water on sauna floor

GRETNA – A local health club is being sued by a man who claims he has permanent injuries from falling in their sauna.

Michael Franklin filed suit against French Riviera Health Spa Inc. and K&K Insurance Group Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 22.

Franklin claims that on Feb. 22, 2012 he was a guest member at the French Riviera Health Spa located at 665 Behrman Highway in Gretna. The plaintiff alleges he was in the sauna when he slipped on liquid and fell to the floor.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly inspect and maintain the defective condition, failing to timely inspect the sauna floor area after constructive notice, failing to warn customers of the dangerous and defective condition, failing to safely maintain the area in a reasonably safe condition, creating and maintaining a defective condition and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, permanent damage, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and economic damages.

Franklin is represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.
