GRETNA – A Texas man alleges a chair at a medical center broke and the fall from it knocked him unconscious.
Corey Alexander filed a suit against Ochsner Medical Center– Westbank LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 24.
According to the claim, the plaintiff was visiting his mother in the medical center on April 2 when the incident occurred. The suit states that while attempting to rise from the recliner he was sitting in, the chair fell backward, causing the plaintiff to fall backward and strike his head on equipment mounted to the wall, rendering him unconscious. The fall also resulted in injuries to his head and neck, the suit states.
The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to keep the premises safe, failing to inspect the chair in order to prevent such an incident from occurring and failing to provide a safe environment for patients and guests.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by George B. Recile and Barry W. Sartin Jr. of Chehardy, Sherman, Williams, Murray, Recile, Stakelum & Hayes LLP in Metairie. The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
