In a gripping legal battle that highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding a widely used herbicide, Mary Firmin has filed a lawsuit against Monsanto Company. The complaint was lodged in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana on May 8, 2025. Firmin accuses Monsanto of negligence and wrongful conduct related to their product Roundup, which contains glyphosate, an ingredient she claims is linked to her development of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Mary Firmin, a resident of Port Allen, Louisiana, asserts that her prolonged exposure to Roundup led to her cancer diagnosis in 2024. She argues that Monsanto's product is defective and dangerous to human health, lacking adequate warnings about its risks. The lawsuit details how glyphosate has been classified as "probably carcinogenic" by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO). Despite this classification, Monsanto allegedly continued to market Roundup as safe for humans and the environment.

The case underscores Monsanto's alleged failure to adequately test Roundup or warn users about its potential dangers. According to the complaint, Monsanto engaged in fraudulent practices by misrepresenting scientific data and minimizing safety concerns. The plaintiff contends that Monsanto knew or should have known about the carcinogenic properties of glyphosate but chose profit over public safety.

Firmin seeks compensatory damages for her medical expenses and suffering, as well as punitive damages due to what she describes as Monsanto's reckless disregard for consumer safety. She also demands a jury trial to address these issues comprehensively.

Representing Mary Firmin are attorneys from law firms specializing in such high-stakes litigation. The case is presided over by Judge Shelly D. Dick with Case ID 3:25-cv-00395-SDD-EWD.
