Man claims he fell in a stairwell while working at a construction site

NEW ORLEANS – A man claims that he fell and struck his head in a poorly lit stairwell on a construction job site where he was working.

James Landry filed a suit against The Phoenix Insurance Co. and Northside Electric Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 11.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was working as a drywall installer for King And Co. on Aug. 15, 2015, at a job site at 600 Carondelet St. in New Orleans. The suit states that as the plaintiff was walking down the stairs at the work site, he fell forward and hit his head on a metal railing, causing injuries to his head, neck, back and body.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to provide proper lighting to ensure the ability to see the metal railing and failing to provide workers with a safe venue to complete their work.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Gregory J. Noto.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court case number 16-8063.
