Woman claims rug in Walmart store caused her to fall, strike head

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claims that she tripped and fell on a rug in Walmart, which caused her to hit her head.

Karen Boykin filed a suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on June 24.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer at the Walmart located at 4001 Behrman Place in New Orleans on July 10, 2015, when the incident took place. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused to trip and fall when she encountered a rug that had been placed in a dangerous position on the ground.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to provide a safe environment for customers, failing to provide warning and failing to remedy the situation to prevent such injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Edward J. Womac Jr. and Matthew Sutton of the Law Offices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Regina Bartholomew Woods.
