Vericel Corp. accused of damaging cartilage sample

GRETNA – A Sterlington man claims that a lab damaged a medical sample needed for treatment.

Robert Turner filed a suit against Vericel Corp. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 21.

According to the claim, the plaintiff had surgery done in November 2015 to remove cartilage so that it could be grown in a lab for the second stage of his surgery in order to solve his knee problems. The suit states that the defendant damaged the cells taken from the plaintiff and that due to the defendant's negligence, the cartilage cells were damaged and unable to be used.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by John F. Bruscato of the Bruscato Law Firm in Monroe.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
