NEW ORLEANS – A property owner claims that a tenant did not purchase insurance as required by the lease agreement.

Ming Li filed a suit against Troy Lawrence Jr. and Double Black LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Dec. 1.

According to the claim, the defendants leased a property from the plaintiff in 2015. The suit states that as part of the terms of the lease, the defendants were to repair the building and plumbing, maintain the building in working order and purchase property and business insurance. The plaintiff alleges that the property was damaged by fire in 2015 and that the defendants did not have it insured. Since the fire, the plaintiff alleges the defendants have not paid rent or repaired the property.

The defendants are accused of failing to comply with the lease agreement.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Al J. Robert Jr. in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
